Capital Chips is a business that was born out of my desire to have a job that would allow me to put my children on the bus every morning. As an educator teaching in a neighboring county, by the time my children were school age, I was leaving the house before they would even wake in the morning. I didn’t get to make them breakfast or put them on the bus. These are small things perhaps, but I didn’t want to miss them. I’d been making these chips for years. Once I married years later, I began making my own chips to take to staff meetings and functions with friends and family. Everywhere I took them, people would rave about how good they were. I knew I had a hit, but I just enjoyed making people happy with food. In 2016 when Steam Bell Beer Works opened near our house, my husband and I stopped by after our anniversary dinner. I noticed they were serving craft beer with craft salsa and factory made chips. The next day I brought them some of my craft chips and they raved over them. They asked me “how many in a case, how much per unit?…” all questions I had no answers for and that’s when I realized I could turn this into a business. That same month I created my LLC and by the following July of 2017 I had resigned my teaching position and received my VDACS approval (Virginia Department of Agriculture) in order to begin my business full time. I am blessed to be able to make people happy through delicious chips, manage a small business committed to giving back to the community, and most importantly; help my two kiddos begin their day with my loving care.
