About Nona’s Italian Cucina

Welcome to Nona’s Italian Cucina! We are an artisanal tomato sauce produced in beautiful rolling mountains of Crozet, Va, but our journey started in Naples, Italy in the 90s. Jesse (co-founder and husband) was stationed in Naples as part of the US Navy. Yvonne (co-founder and CEO) was busy raising two girls and trying to navigate a new country and language. One day, shortly after moving, the girls were playing in the back yard, Nonna’s head pop over the fence.

She didn’t speak English and I didn’t speak Italian, but that didn’t stop us from enjoying a coffee together. A wonderful relationship began between Nonna and my family. Nonna, is the one who taught me this sauce. It was her grace, generosity, and love of cooking that taught me many lessons in the kitchen. She taught me how to pick produce at peak season, to go to the local markets and farmers, and to have patience with the sauce. She has shaped me into the cook I am today.

I partner with local vendors to buy quality ingredients so that I can produce a quality product. When you open a bottle of Nona’s sauce, I want the aromas to surround you and your family. I hope it brings your family around an open table just like Nonna’s sauce did for me and my family. She opened her arms to us and welcomed us into her family. She gave us her heart and soul all while communicating through food. 

Our product is naturally Gluten-free, vegan, no sugar added, and our tomatoes are imported from Italy. We use ONLY canned San Marzano tomatoes from Naples, Italy. They grow in July and August and upon harvest are skinned and canned within 10 hours of being picked. San Marzano’s grow in the volcanic soil of the region and make the tomatoes so delicious.

We believe good food brings people together, and it is our hope that our sauce will be a small part of helping families and our community create meaningful connections and lasting memories!  With each bottle, I feel like I’m giving a little bit of my heart to you.
